Main film voiceover Queen Margaret University - a thriving academic community under ten minutes’ train journey from central Edinburgh, and situated just beside the seaside town of Musselburgh. Our purpose-built new campus, which opened in 2007, is a truly inspiring place to study. The campus focuses around an innovative Learning Resource Centre bringing together IT and library facilities and a flexible range of learning spaces, from silent study rooms to AV viewing facilities. You’ll find modern classrooms, lecture theatres and meeting spaces with fabulous views over the surrounding area. Whether you’re interested in business, management and enterprise, health sciences, drama and the creative industries or social sciences, we can offer you a range of professionally relevant courses focused on preparing you for a successful career. Based in a city long established as a centre for medical excellence, we are known for our niche areas of expertise in health including radiography, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy. We are internationally known for a number of other programmes including hospitality management and public relations. The campus has an impressive range of student facilities including a Students’ Union, sports facilities, counselling services, financial advice, learning support, careers advice and a Job Shop which can help you find suitable employment while you study and during vocation times. Environmental sustainability is central to the philosophy of the new campus and the buildings have a range of environmentally-intelligent features making Queen Margaret University one of the most green universities in the UK. The campus is a haven from traffic but is well served by local buses, trains and cycle routes, making car-use unnecessary. There are 800 en-suite student rooms on campus, in shared flats. Sharing a flat on campus really is the most stress-free form of student accommodation. You don’t have to worry about travelling to campus, or splitting heating costs and other bills between flat mates, and internet access and power are all included in the price. Imagine stepping out from your room, then walking across our beautiful landscaped campus to the Learning Resource Centre to attend classes. Between classes, you could enjoy a meal in our Food Court which offers a mouth-watering variety of food. Perhaps you will want to enjoy a well earned night at the Students’ Union which is situated on campus. The Union acts as a safe place for students to relax, socialise in and chill out. The Union has a bar and nightclub area, as well as a café, and also offers a wide range of societies and clubs to get involved in. These cover everything from film to dance, football, music and theatre. There are also a variety of themed entertainment evenings to take part in. The Students’ Union also offers a range of support and information services to support you during your time at Queen Margaret University. There is a rehearsal studio on site where you can watch performances by students of the School of Drama and the Creative Industries. Also on site are specialist facilities for our courses including film and video production facilities, a TV studio, and specialist laboratories and clinics. Research is central to the work of QMU. With more than 50% of our academic staff involved in such work, the university hosts a variety of internationally recognised research centres including our Speech Science Research Centre and our International Institute for Health and Development. Even the open-plan layout of our new campus has been specifically designed to encourage collaborative research work. Our research informs our teaching ensuring that you learn the latest industry thinking and techniques giving you a competitive edge in the jobs market. Once you have graduated from Queen Margaret University, you should find that your course has given you the skills you need to make a flying start in the world of work.
