HPC Registered Dietitian, Level 3 ISAK Anthropometrist
After qualifying and before joining QMU in 1998 I worked within a variety of NHS settings and specialities within the UK including intensive care, renal, nutrition support and palliative care.
I joined QMU initially as a visiting part time Lecturer and then took up a full time position in 2000, becoming the Programme Leader for the UG Dietetics Programme in 2002. . I teach on the majority of levels on the UG and PG programmes housed within the DNBS subject area and my teaching commitments are therefore varied ranging from therapeutic dietetics to sports nutrition.
I am currently undertaking my PhD examining the effects of intradialytic exercise on quality of life, nutrition and functional status in long term haemodialysis patients. My other research interests include the clinical assessment of nutritional status and body composition in relation to health, function and chronic enduring illnesses.
In addition to my QMU remit I am currently the Chair of the Scottish Dietetic Stakeholder Partnership, I represent the Scottish Cluster on the British Dietetic Association Curriulum Review Group, I am a member of the SIGN CKD guideline development group and I am a course tutor on the annual BDA PEN Group Clinical Update.
