Following completion of my B.Sc (Hons) in Biological Sciences at the University of Stirling, I commenced my Ph.D in Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Nottingham, Queens Medical Centre. I then held 3 post-doctoral positions in Sheffield, Nottingham and Edinburgh where I studied molecular biology, the development of anti-microbial agents and vaccine development. I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Nottingham and I am a secondary school teacher for Biology and Health Sciences. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I currently lecture microbiology, immunology, clinical sciences, research process and honours project. I also supervise research projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and I am currently supervising 4 Ph.D students. My research interests are on the anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties of plant products and the modulation of blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose by the consumption of foods high in plant flavonoids and other polyphenols.
