Our PG Programme has been running since 2001 and has quickly become a highly successful course. Alongside the UG programme it has recently been updated in line with changes in clinical practice, population demographics and key NHS documents.

The course has been successfully validated until 2006 and has continued approval by the HPC.

The course is for graduates of biological sciences resulting in students on this course having a wide variety of undergraduate degrees e.g. nutrition, physiology or biochemistry.

Level 1

As the students have a strong scientific background obtained from their under-graduate degrees the focus of the course is very much on the attainment of knowledge and skills in preparation for their B and C Placements and future careers as Dietitians.

Semester 1 & 2

  • Food and People

  • Food Science

  • Introduction to Microbiology & Immunology

The Professional Studies incorporates reflection and consolidation of Placement A, maintenance of portfolio’s along with preparation for Placement B and C which includes the involvement of a local trainer.

More information on these modules can be obtained by clicking on the subject above

Placement A

Our students go out on Placement A in January at the end of Semester 1 and prior to this attend a series of classes in preparation for Placement A that cover Portfolios, learning outcomes, expectations in addition to attaining the necessary  Food Hygiene Certificate

Level 2

Level 2 comprises of the substantive B & C placements and the Masters dissertation.

Semester 3

Placement B

Students embark on Placement B in July at the end of Level 1. On both B and C Placements trainers and students are contacted by the students Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) approximately 5-6 weeks into the placement in order to check on the students progress and to organise a visit if deemed necessary

We would of course encourage trainers or students to contact us sooner rather than later with any issues

Semester 4

Placement C

At the end of  their B placement the students have 4 weeks consolidation at QMUC and then embark on Placement C at the beginning of November.

After successful completion of their 12 week Placement students return to QMUC to take their final Professional Practice Exam (Therapeutic Dietetics & Professional studies).

Students can exit with a PgDip Dietetics at this point. However, they do have the opportunity, and are encouraged, to undertake a Masters dissertation.
