The Doctoral Candidates' Association (DCA)
Since its formation, the Doctoral Candidates' Association has consistently supported students undertaking their Doctoral degrees at QMU. We provide unity and support in various aspects of Doctoral life. Every year the association's management and activities have grown from strength to strength, from vision to vision, always with one spirit in mind: as Doctoral students, we are the front-runners in our respective fields, therefore it is to everyone's interest that we contribute our best to bodies of knowledge and society. The Doctoral Candidates' Association is one of the student-led initiatives to ensure and promote this. The DCA Co-Chairs change on a yearly basis.

The Annual QMU Postgraduate Conference
DCA Conference
The QMU Doctoral Conference is an annual event aimed at exploring and sharing doctoral research currently underway at Queen Margaret University. The event is delivered through a collaboration between the Graduate School, the Doctoral Candidates Association and QMU candidates themselves. The conference is open to all doctoral candidates, PGT students and staff.
All QMU Doctoral Candidates and Post-Graduate Students are welcome.
The conference presenters are current doctoral candidates who wish to present their work to a like-minded audience of doctoral candidates and postgraduate research students. This two-day event will consist mostly of typical conference presentations.

Summary Biography:
I hold a MSc in Applied Professional Studies (Policing) and joined QMU in September 2018, affiliated to the Centre for Person-Centred Practice Research and the Centre for Applied Social Sciences. My project is investigating what happens for people living with dementia while considered missing seeking to inform Police search activity to be more effective in locating the missing person. I am currently undertaking a retrospective study of police missing person data then aim to recruit people living with dementia and others for a mixed methods study into being missing.

Mridhula Murali

Summary Biography:
My research is currently focused on clinical linguistics, investigating motor speech disorders. As part of my PhD I am conducting research on finding speech markers in people with Parkinson's disease which might act as indicators of disease progression. This could help speech and language therapists in future intervention methods.

Alinedoh Carlson Mbi Nkwain

Summary Biography:
Carl joined the Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD) at QMU in 2019 as a masters student in Global Health and eventually continued to study for a PhD in Global Health in 2020. His current research focuses on exploring Community Health Workers’ (CHWs) perspectives operating in fragile and conflict-affected settings (FCAS) on strategies to support them best. His study setting is the anglophone regions (North West and South West) of Cameroon – his home homeland.

Summary Biography
I joined QMU in September 2017 to begin my PhD in Cultural Policy. My research is focusing on ‘Paisley’s success through failure’ in bidding process for the UK City of Culture, ascertaining how the bidding process was managed, what cultural policies where introduced or changed to algin with the application criteria and the extent to which the bidding process has positively influenced cultural policy outcomes and cultural ecology within Paisley.
