The campus is designed to meet the highest standards of sustainability and we have a green travel policy in place. We encourage visitors where possible to utilise public transport when attending an event or conference at QMU. If you are a visitor to QMU and need to travel by car, we can however arrange a visitor permit to allow you to use our campus car park.

Please note: Vehicular access is from the A1 only. Pedestrian access is available via Whitehill Farm Road or N1 cycle path from Newcraighall.

TRAIN

The train is the fastest way to the campus, with the journey taking around 6 minutes from Edinburgh Waverley Station. Musselburgh train station is right next to our campus (the campus is clearly visible from the train station), and is only a two minute walk from the main academic building.

Trains from Central Edinburgh
Trains run from Haymarket and Waverley Station to Musselburgh. You should get the North Berwick service. Musselburgh is the first stop.

The train journey from Waverley to Musselburgh takes only 6 minutes.
It costs £2.10 for a single journey or £2.90 return.

Trains from East Lothian
You can get a train to Musselburgh Station from North Berwick, Drem, Longniddry, Prestonpans and Wallyford Stations.

Detailed information can be found on the First Scotrail website

BUS

You can purchase Lothian bus tickets from the university shop or sports reception.

Bus from Central Edinburgh
The number 30 Lothian bus goes directly into the campus and runs approximately every 10 minutes. The journey takes about 35 minutes from Edinburgh city centre.

You can catch the number 30 from several bus stops on Princes Street and following this on to North Bridge. The journey will cost £1.20 each way, or you can buy a day ticket for £3.00 which will enable you to unlimited travel for that day on all Lothian buses (except the ‘Airlink’ bus).

More information on the route of the number 30 is available on the Lothian Buses website.

The 45 bus route also comes onto campus, but only during peak travel times. You can catch this bus from Hanover Street.

Bus from Edinburgh Airport
From Edinburgh Airport, you can catch the 'Airlink 'bus into the city centre and alight at the Waverley station stop (just off Princes Street). The number 30 bus leaves from the other side of the road, Princes Street. Alternatively, go into Waverley train station & catch the train.

Bus from East Lothian
From central Musselburgh, you can either catch a number 30 Lothian bus on the east side of Musselburgh High Street, or it’s a 20 minute walk up towards Stoneybank.

BY CAR

Do not programme our post code location into GPS etc or you will be sent to a closed barrier that does not allow private vehicle access to the campus. Car access to our campus is by the ‘Queen Margaret ‘exit on the SOUTHBOUND carriageway of the A1.

When you come off the slip road, turn left at the bottom. The car park is signed as the first entry on the right. Do not be anxious about the ‘alligator teeth‘ at the entrance to the car park; they drop down as you drive over on the way in. Please park in any bay marked ‘Visitor Parking’.

You will need to display a visitor parking permit on your dash board. These will be issued by your event organiser.

Car from Central Edinburgh: 20 mins
From the East End of Princes Street or Queen Street take the A900 towards Leith Walk. Take the left hand turn onto London Road (more or less opposite Gayfield Square, and signposted Berwick Upon Tweed A1). Follow the A1 signs, past Easter Road, and Meadowbank Stadium then turn right into Willowbrae Road at the Jocks Lodge traffic lights junction. Continue for about 2 miles until the junction at the A1. Take a right onto the A1, and continue along, over the roundabout and past the exit to Newcraighall. Take the following exit on the left after the Queen Margaret University sign. Take a left at the end of the slip road and follow round to the car park entrance, first on the right.

Car from East Lothian: 30 mins
Travelling along the Westbound carriageway, you will pass the University on your right. There is no direct access to the campus from this carriageway. Instead continue to the next exit for Newcraighall and follow that road round to the right, under the A1 and back up the other side onto the Eastbound carriageway. The slip road to the campus will then be the next exit off the A1.

CYCLING

By Cycle from Central Edinburgh: 30 mins
National Cycle Route 1 runs from Waverley Station to the campus. There are also many quiet roads in the Musselburgh area which would allow for safe cycling. These can be seen on the Spokes cycle map. There is plenty of space for bikes on all the trains calling at Musselburgh and we have ample sheltered bike stands on campus to allow you to lock your bike up.
