ABOUT CLEARING

What is Clearing?

Clearing is a UCAS service that helps people without a university or college place to find suitable vacancies on higher education courses. It's a well-organised, efficient system which finds places for more than 35,000 people every year. Most people who use Clearing have already applied through UCAS but have not secured a place on a course. Clearing also helps late applicants who have applied after 30 June.

Who can enter Clearing?

You may be eligible for Clearing for one of these reasons:

  • You are not holding any offers from universities or colleges.
  • Your offer was not confirmed when their exam results were announced.
  • You have declined, or not responded to, a changed course, a changed date of entry or a changed point of entry offer.
  • You have applied too late for their application to be considered before Clearing.
If you are eligible to enter Clearing, UCAS will have sent you full instructions. See the UCAS Website for details.

What happens when you contact us?

Your call will be answered by one of our recruitment team who will offer you advice about the courses which are available through Clearing. If you are interested in a particular course then you will be able to speak directly to one of our admissions tutors. If an admissions tutor is not available immediately, we will take a note of your details and ask the tutor to phone you back. If you have any general questions about Queen Margaret University, our Admissions team should be able to answer them.

If you are made an offer through Clearing you will be sent full information about induction and matriculation. Please be aware that all courses start on 17th September and that induction takes place in the week beginning 10th September.

For further information, please visit our Induction website

If you join QMU in 2012, you'll become part of a friendly, supportive place of study focused on providing you with the skills you need for your future career. You'll also be studying at our new purpose-built campus, which opened in 2007.

With just under 5,000 students, we pride ourselves on our small and friendly learning environment. Here, you'll never be just a 'face in the crowd': our small size allows for closer interaction with lecturers and fellow students - a highly beneficial and enjoyable part of your student experience. We offer a wide range of undergraduate courses which will equip you with skills which are highly desirable to employers.

The city of Edinburgh has lots to offer students: theatres, pubs, clubs, concert venues, shops, libraries, great transport links and lots of student housing.

ADJUSTMENT

What is Adjustment?

The UCAS Adjustment process is available from A level results day (16 August 2012) until 31st August 2012. Your individual Adjustment period starts on 18 August or when your conditional firm (CF) choice changes to unconditional firm (UF), whichever is later. From this time you have a maximum of five calendar days (five 24 hour periods, including Saturdays and Sundays) to register and secure an alternative course, if you decide this is what you want to do.

If you want to try to find an alternative course you must register through UCAS to use Adjustment so universities and colleges can view your application.

The Track 'Choices' page shows you when your Adjustment period ends. If you become eligible to use Adjustment less than five calendar days before 31 August, you will have the remaining time before then to find an alternative place and have it confirmed by the HEI. For example, if you become UF on 29 August they will have three days to use the process. If you do not find a suitable place elsewhere you will remain accepted at your original choice.

There are adjustment places available for International Fee applicants on all courses. There are adjustment places available for Home and EU applicants only on the courses available in Clearing.
