There are many ways in which you, as an employer, can use and benefit
from the University Careers and Student Employability Service. We can
help you save time and money on advertising vacancies and help you
raise the profile of your company within the University. We'd like
to involve you in helping students prepare for employment thereby ensuring
that your needs are always met in the QMU graduates you employ.

Why recruit our graduates?
Besides subject knowledge, a degree equips graduates with a range
of skills and abilities of value in the workplace. Largely due to
the practical nature of the courses at QMU we believe that our
graduates are excellent communicators, quick and willing to learn,
and have the ability to work well in a team.

Our aim
The Careers and Student Employability Service supports students in identifying and achieving
their career goals. We aim to offer them as much information as
we can on opportunities, graduate employers, and the skills required
by those who recruit graduates. Our links with employers are essential
in delivering services to students. We are keen to work with employers
to ensure we keep each other informed about developments in the
Higher Education sector, in the labour market and in your organisation.

Advertising your vacancies at QMU
We offer employers the possibility to advertise their vacancies to our students and the quickest way to reach our students is to register as an employer with us. Once registered, you can manage your vacancies directly free of charge. This means you can add, change or delete your vacancies whenever you need to. This online service will send automatic emails to students who have registered their interest in your particular area of work, or those who have shown interest in the opportunities you wish to advertise.

We recommend that employers who wish to advertise vacancies to students and graduates in the UK take advantage of the Prospects system offered by our partner Graduate Prospects.

Placement students
Many courses at Queen Margaret University incorporate a
compulsory placement module. This is where a student is required
to complete a project for a company within their premises. A placement
student can provide a cost-effective solution to your recruitment
needs. The student can bring fresh ideas and solutions into the
workplace as well as knowledge of the latest technology and theories
which may resolve your business problems effectively. Moreover,
working with a student for a period of time is an effective way
to test the water and train a future member of staff without the
commitment.

Raising awareness and getting involved
The Careers and Student Employability Service runs programmes of careers education for students
including topics such as making applications and preparing for interviews.
With the emphasis on what employers are looking for in graduates,
these sessions are enhanced by the participation of employers themselves.
You can raise awareness of your organisation by getting involved
in the careers education activities of the Careers and Student Employability Service.
