Entry Qualifications
To apply for the programme, you normally should:
- be educated to an Honours degree or equivalent or provide evidence of study at graduate level.
- provide evidence of prior learning (certificate or experiential) to meet the pre-requisite requirements of modules, or undertake specially designed access modules or equivalent.
In addition, for qualified Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors the following regulations apply:
- Possession of current first level professional registration that is effectively entered on the register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (parts 1, 3, 5, 8, 10-15).
- Must have completed a minimum of three years full-time experience, or equivalent part-time experience, during the last ten years.
- Acquired additional professional knowledge which must be relevant to the intended areas of teaching/practice and at no less than degree level.
Other professions undertaking this postgraduate programme may also have to meet specific statutory criteria. These will be stipulated in any additional approval events.

Accreditation of prior learning
Under the regulations for Modular Masters Scheme, individuals may apply for up to 50% credit for taught modules Any applicants who make an application for APL (APEL or APCL) must demonstrate achievement in relation to all components of the professional curriculum. An experienced practitioner in a position of responsibility within education must verify such claims.
NMC Accreditation for nurses and midwives
Qualified Nurses or Midwives who are seeking teacher registration with the NMC and are following this programme, require:
- current first-level professional registration, which is effectively entered on the register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC);
- evidence of professional post-registration experience;
- access to appropriate practice/ clinical area that will allow candidates to meet the outcomes of the course.
HEA Accreditation
The modules Education in Action 1 & 2 (EA 1&2) have been accredited by the Higher Education Academy. On successful completion of these modules, candidates can apply directly to the HEA to become an Associate Fellow (EA1) or full Fellow (EA 1&2). For more details please click here.
Teaching practice
During the core 'Education in Action' modules, there is a requirement for teaching practice. You should be able to demonstrate, on application, that you have an existing teaching role within your place of work or that alternative arrangements can be made through your employer or a higher education institution that will facilitate your teaching practice.
