The Centre for Academic Practice has an important role in the support and development of learning and teaching at QMU.
To this end we provide:
- a PgCert in Professional and Higher Education for those who wish to gain a further qualification
- a short course in facilitating learning and teaching, predominately for new lecturers
- a range of support and training materials for users of technology enhanced learning software
- a regular programme of staff development workshops and seminars

Supporting and developing the curriculum by putting contemplation back into HE: enhancing students' attention and effectiveness.

The focus of this event is the application of contemplative practices to enhance students' ability to learn in any subject. We will explore the evidence and potential of such practices to help students develop their ability to focus (hold attention) and through this, to increase their effectiveness as learners. Thus the main goals of the seminar are to:
- Engage participants with the available evidence
- Provide experiences of CPs
- Facilitate application within individual contexts
We would like to invite offers for 'CP taster' sessions (20 minutes) and 'Exploring Evidence' sessions (30 minutes).

Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh: Learning & Teaching Conference

This conference provided an opportunity for attendees to engage in dialogue, discuss new activities and approaches, get inspired, meet colleagues and students in other disciplines within QMU and from outside, and to share knowledge and practice.

Afternoon workshops
- Sustaining Sustainability?
Dr Paul Kleiman, Higher Education Academy.
In support of this workshop, a draft of Paul’s chapter: ‘Staging Sustainability: Making Sense of Sustainability in HE Dance, Drama and Music’ is available. (Chapter 9 in: “Sustainability Education: perspectives and practices across higher education” edited by Paula Jones, David Selby and Stephen Sterling, published by Earthscan in 2010). This chapter focuses on Paul’s discipline areas of dance, drama and music; however, the workshop was intended for colleagues from all disciplines - sciences, arts and humanities, social sciences - to discuss and explore the issues.
