Creative Industries – Film and Media Production
Stunning time-lapse film of The Kelpies is launched in New York and Scotland
With the changes in modern film production techniques, QMU expertise provides cutting edge research and consultancy in film making and media practice. The creation of a dedicated consultancy in this area aims to establish QMU as a key player in the creative industries in Scotland by:
Translation of research techniques in media practice for commercial film creation and production;
Supporting Scotland’s SMEs to increase competitiveness through access to affordable creative technologies, training and exploitation of social media and
- Consultancy to assist SMEs in setting up in-house production facilities.
Leading work in this area is QMU Media Practice researcher, Walid Salhab who achieved unprecedented success as a filmmaker in 2012. Aside from getting over three million hits on You Tube with 'Kinetic Edinburgh II' and half a million hits for 'Kinetic Edinburgh 1', Walid’s earlier short film ‘Bra-et Al Rouh’ (Innocence of the Spirit) has been screened at festivals in Cannes, The Hamptons (New York), Las Vegas and Cape Cod and has picked up six awards in the process.
As a result of this success Walid has produced a time lapse film of the construction of The Kelpies two 30m high giant horses heads, which form the public art centre piece of The Helix a £25m park and recreational area between Grangemouth and Falkirk.
Kinetic Scotland uses modern experimental film making techniques (such as time lapse and aerial drone) film making to create films that show case the beauty of Scotland in unique ways.
