Jane is a lecturer in business law at Queen Margaret University. She is a member of the University’s Consumer Insight Team and is the module coordinator for the masters module in dispute resolution and complaint handling practice. This module was developed in conjunction with the Financial Ombudsman Service and has been studied by 500 complaint adjudicators in the last two years.
As a former manager in Trading Standards Jane has direct experience of complaint handling and investigation. Jane has strong links within the Trading Standards field across the UK and extensive experience of running short courses for professionals within that field. She is a member of the Trading Standards Institute and has worked as a consultant on their behalf as well as an examiner and moderator. Jane has also worked with a number of other regulators delivering training on a range of enforcement issues including investigatory and surveillance powers and the evidence gathering process. Jane has also been involved with the delivery of a range of other qualifications to ombudsman organisations.
Jane’s current research interests relate to the role of ombudsman organisations and how they are responding to current drivers for change. She is also interested in the implementation of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive in the UK and the relationship between regulation and redress.
