Ways to Get Involved & Stay Connected

After graduating, there are several ways that you can stay connected to QMU.
KEEP IN TOUCH
If you keep us up to date with your current address, we will be able to keep you informed of events, reunions, opportunities at QMU. Join the online NetCommunity, contact alumni@qmu.ac.uk.
SHARE YOUR CAREER STORY
QMU invites you to share the story of your career with current students at the University.
QMU is developing a range of projects to encourage and support students to plan their future careers through developing appropriate and relevant skills and attributes. The project is part of the Scottish Funding Council’s Employability Initiative and is coordinated by Fiona Boyle, Employability Co-ordinator in the Centre for Academic Practice at QMU.
The Careers Team has been working with the Alumni Office to build connections with graduates who are willing to share their career stories and perhaps come in to speak to students.
“Students value the opportunity to discuss how they can apply their studies to the workplace as well as hearing invaluable advice about the recruitment and selection process as well as Continuing Professional Development.”
If you are willing to do a short talk on your career development since graduating, or are keen to find out more about how you can help, please contact the Careers Team at QMU at careers@qmu.ac.uk.
SHARE YOUR MEMORIES - QMU’s 135 th ANNIVERSARY PROJECT
Instead of the move to the new campus severing the ties with the University’s past, it has strengthened the view of the importance of the University’s history, and the staff and students who have made QMU what it is today.
In 2010, the University celebrated its 135th anniversary. As part of the celebrations we would like to create a collection of personal memories from past students who will be able to tell the story of the University and its predecessor institutions from the inside. Many graduates have already supplied fascinating stories but it has not been easy to share these with everyone. Our aim is to cover the 135 years with at least one story/memory from each decade so there might have to be a lot of rummaging in the archives to find material for the early years.
We are hoping to make these reminiscences available online initially and have started an 'Alumni Reminisce' page with a contribution from Rosamund Berry, who at the age of 96, is our oldest known graduate. Rosamund has shared many memories with us and we hope to add to those that are already displayed here.
If you would like to be part of this project and send us your memories and photos, please contact Craig Rutherford(Development and Alumni Manager) on 0131 474 0000 or email: crutherford@qmu.ac.uk or alumni@qmu.ac.uk.
ARCHIVES
The move to the new campus proved to be an ideal opportunity for QMU to consolidate the various collections of archival material which were located throughout the old sites at Corstorphine and Leith. Archivist, Sarah Bland, was temporarily employed from July 2007 until January 2008, and she collected together a large amount of material which forms the foundation of the QMU archive, now held in the Learning Resource Centre. The three main areas of collections are a)the collection of archives and special collection books, b) University records and c) Artefacts.
The collection is continually growing and donations from graduates and their relations are always welcome.
If you have any questions or wish to make a donation to the archive, please contact Sheila Williams on 0131 474 0000 or email swilliams2@qmu.ac.uk.
