The Sandie Randall India Collaboration International Prize

On 6th September, 2010 Award winner Sneha Sonhi was presented with her £500 award for outstanding academic achievement from Sandie Randall (far left) and was joined by Lecturers Bryan Cruden and Bernie Quinn (far right).
The presentation was made in front of the 2010/11 cohort of International Hospitality Students who listened intently to Sandie's explanation of the origin and purpose of the award and to Sneha's words of inspiration, encouraging the new students to work hard and make the most of their time as a student at QMU.
Making a Difference
Education is something that should be available to all people, from all countries and from all backgrounds. For some this is still an expensive luxury. For many this too often means students take on huge debts to fund their studies.
Queen Margaret University has a long history of collaborations with institutions in India, working with students to achieve degrees in the field of hospitality and tourism. We are very proud of the relationships we have developed with hospitality management institutions in India. We now have over 100 students, from 4 different colleges, who come to Queen Margaret University to learn about International Hospitality Management. We hope to increase this significantly in coming years.
This prize has been generously donated by Sandie Randall, former Head of Learning and Teaching in the School of Business and Enterprise. Sandie says “ Developing the academic relationships with our Indian partners has been immensely satisfying and the prize has been one small way by which I have been able to support the development of an international community of learners at Queen Margaret University.”
Having worked with both students and staff from our Indian partner institutions for many years, it is Sandie’s wish that this prize helps students who come to Edinburgh from India to study her subject; Hospitality Management. The award of £500 provides Indian students with very welcome financial support.
The prize is awarded based on academic performance to a direct entry International Hospitality Management student, studying in year 3 of the International Hospitality Management (IHM) Degree, from one of our partner colleges in India, as follows: IIHM Kolkata, IAM Kolkata, IAM Goa, ITM Mumbai.
For further details on the IHM course please go to: BA/BA (Hons) International Hospitality Management
