Grant Management

Grant Management & Queen Margaret University -A Perfect Match
Grant Management created a little bit of history in November 2007 by becoming the first official sponsors on Queen Margaret University’s brand new campus. With Grant Management continuing to work hard to reduce emissions across its portfolio of over 1,800 properties, and Queen Margaret University being the UK’s most sustainable campus the relationship, it seemed, was a natural development for both parties.
In honour of Grant Management’s generous gift of £20,000, Queen Margaret University has named one of the internet cafés in the new academic building after Grant Management as well as featuring the Grant Management brand logo on the Real Time Information system that displays bus times to students, staff and visitors to the campus
An exciting feature of the sponsorship agreement was the funding of a mural competition for Queen Margaret University students on the theme of carbon neutral living. The winning design (shown below) is now on display in the internet café and has a prominent position within the new campus. This exciting development not only represents the synergies that exist between Queen Margaret University and Grant Management but also celebrates a blossoming relationship and new beginnings. Student winner, Ishy Walters, said: “I am thrilled to have won the Grant Management Mural competition to raise awareness of environmental impact. I really hope that this bright positive visual image will encourage people to work together and make the changes which will have a real impact in supporting the ecology of our natural world.”
Grant Management properties tend to be renovated traditional properties in excellent city locations. Since 2006, all renovated properties include energy efficient features to save on emissions, keep tenant bills low and to help reduce global warming. Grant Management plant trees for every property let through its sister carbon-offsetting charity, Global Trees www.globaltrees.co.uk . In addition, the company have been switching energy supplier to Scottish Hydro Electric, a green energy source. Whilst tenants have the choice as to energy supplier, Grant Management encourage tenants to remain with a green option.
Peter Grant, chief executive of Grant Management and his wife Colette set up Global Trees in November 2006 after being inspired by a speech on global warming by former US President Bill Clinton. The couple hope to plant 30m trees a year through the charity by encouraging a million people to donate at least £5 from their wages every month.
Peter Grant said: "Helping the planet is a big issue for the students and young professionals who form the bulk of our tenants, so it also has to be a big issue for us as a business. Property accounts for 52% of all carbon emissions, so by going carbon neutral we're offering students the choice to live in a more sustainable way. Supporting Queen Margaret University in their goal to create a low carbon university allows us to extend that message and raise our own profile as a provider of carbon neutral accommodation."
