Santander Universities Community Awards

The Santander Universities Community Awards scheme aims to recognise outstanding achevement by QMU students in an activity not related to their academic studies and exceptional contributions by QMU students to either QMU or the wider community.

Volunteering is a key part of many students' lives at QMU with students offering their services to a wide range of organsiations both in the UK and across the world. Their experiences are rich and varied. Their dedication, enthusiasm and generosity is recognised through the Community Awards. Santander donate £500 to the charity chosen by the award winning student. The student is then rewarded personally with £100 from the QMU Student Fund. In 2008, the administration of the Awards was taken over by the QMU Students' Union under the managament of the President, Rio Floreza:
“The Students’ Union is delighted to work with Santander to promote volunteering amongst our student members. The Union has worked hard in recent years to recognize students who get involved and commit themselves to roles of responsibility within the Union; and we are delighted to furthermore manage the Santander Awards as an opportunity to recognize and applaud student involvement in the local community.
Recognizing student achievement in volunteering is something that the Union has placed high on our list of priorities; particularly with our Volunteer Recognition Programme (VRP) that currently recognizes over 100 students who help run Sports and Societies, Borrow-A-Bike, Student Survey, Student Parliament, The Echo newspaper, Raise and Give, Pulse Radio and Experience Africa.
We are delighted to compliment The Santander Community Awards, which go along way to supporting student volunteering and of course, assist those charities that they volunteer with.”
