A mixed methods approach will be employed for this research which will be conducted in four phases.

Phase one: A cross disciplinary literature review was executed which identified opportunities for using ICT-based tools/applications and an array of ICT-based tools/applications that can be used for sustainable tourism development. Please click here for Phase one findings.

Phase two: Administering of electronic questionnaires to stakeholders in sustainable tourism and eTourism, namely: destination managers, eTourism experts and destination system providers. Please click here for a glossary of terms for these eSurveys.

If you are an eTourism expert and would like to participate in this survey, please click here.

Phase three: Involves the critical evaluation of the outcomes of phase one and two and produces the foundation for the development of the Recommender System which will seek to assess the ICT-based tools/applications for use by destination managers in sustainable tourism development.

Phase four: Comprises a questionnaire to be formulated from the inputs of the Recommender System and will be administered to destination managers, eTourism experts and destination system providers to determine the applicability and feasibility of the Recommender System for sustainable tourism development.
