ICT and Sustainable Tourism

Welcome to this website on ICT and sustainable tourism. This site will give you some insights into the cutting-edge PhD research which investigates the uses and applications of ICT in sustainable tourism development. This research will develop a wide-ranging collection of ICT-based tools/applications for use in sustainable tourism development as well as assessment procedures to assist destination managers in the selection of these tools/applications which are best suited for use by their destination. It is anticipated that this new and innovative approach will contribute to the solutions of many of the challenges encountered in managing the impacts of tourism.

This project is entitled "The Development of a Recommender System for Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based Applications for Sustainable Tourism Development of Destinations". This work is interdisciplinary since it is combining two of the leading and contemporary fields in tourism research today i.e. ICT and sustainable tourism.

To build a solid foundation for this research, the opinions and perspectives of destination managers and eTourism experts on the uses of ICT for sustainable tourism development are currently being surveyed.
